Adapting to life in a new environment
Going on an international assignment can be a unique opportunity for an employee, and their family, to experience life within a different culture. Living and working in a foreign country can be truly rewarding, on both professional and personal levels, providing the employee and family are sufficiently prepared for the challenges they may face in adapting to their new life.
For the employee, these challenges will include adapting to the business practices and day to day business etiquette of the host country, from communication and management styles, through to attitudes to team working, authority and even time-keeping, which may be very different to those in their home location.
Recognition of these cultural differences at both professional and social levels, and the provision of training and support to enable the employee and family to adapt accordingly, can minimise the risk of miscommunication, misunderstanding and, in the worst case scenario, the failure of the assignment.
Icon has established a partnership with a leading cultural awareness and language training consultancy, to provide a range of cultural and language training programmes for relocating employees. These programmes are tailored to the requirements of individual employees, providing a comprehensive insight into the target country, culture and people to equip the employee with the necessary skills and knowledge to ensure the relocation is successful.
Our partners provide tailored “Living and Working in .....” programmes for 30+ international destinations which are flexible in terms of both content and the training location; training programmes can be delivered pre- or post-departure, or a mixture of the two, depending on the employee’s needs and circumstances.
